  The artists
"Liquid Light" is a multimedia event in which renowned artists Petulia Mattioli (video installations), Eraldo Bernocchi and Nils Petter Molvaer (soundscapes) are seen interacting with the splendid and complex architectural space of Palazzo Lomellino in Genoa. The unusual choice of location for their performances is driven by the conviction, that the public ought to interact with the work of art - the work itself being conceived as an all-encompassing sensorial experience.
The event whole will result from the interaction of two components in time: an extended one, represented by multiple video projections starting in the atrium, passing through the stairwell and culminating with video installation located in the three rooms of Bernardo Strozzi's frescoes; and a punctual one, represented by the concert opening the event, which will then become a looping aural backdrop for the aforementioned video installation in the following days.
In this context, the path of technology is chosen not with the aim of merely surprising the viewers and listeners, but of creating a space for common immersion and contemplation. Furthermore, the act of developing the installation in real time and in direct relationship with the public frees the work of art of the convention of non-accessibility and/or distance, but opens it to direct sensory experience and manipulation by the audience. Spectators will be welcomed in the atrium by near-imperceptible sonic textures highlighting fleeting images of bodies appearing in dark corners of the space. The overwhelming blue pigment of this very first part of the video installation will act as a conduit for the viewer towards an immersion with sound and images. Sounds of running children, hidden giggles, deep drones and electronic vibrations will carry over towards the courtyard, maintaining the suspense for something not yet revealed.

Once in the courtyard, one will be greeted by chairs and the musical stage, like an open sky theatre.
Ambient sounds will continue guiding the observer up the staircase to the first floor, where, gleaning from within the three rooms of Strozzi, are huge projection screens, arranged like theatre quintas. Videos will not reveal themselves simultaneously, yet will be providing fundamental timing for a unified discourse, spaced out by time, sound and darkness, in the same way as the shadows in the atrium did via light, gazes and bodies. Then a strong sound will catch the listener's attention - something about to happen in the courtyard.
The event flows forth in its crescendo, towards its apex for that first night, the concert in the courtyard - the live performance which will then become permanent soundscape of the installation. Infos:
